18th November 2018:

We had a great stay. The location was excellent and the walk from Torcastle along the river was excellent. The B&B was also very nice as were the hosts. A very minor thing that could be considered would be having the possibility to have separate table in the dining room so that guests from different rooms can have a bit more space. Thank you for an excellent time. We would definitely like to stay again!

Tips:

The "Macbeth" walk.

We could not have found a more delightful place to stay with lovely hosts. Greeted with a warm, friendly welcome, the accommodation offered everything that you require in the way of home comforts. Set in tranquil surroundings with incredible views a plenty, Torcastle House is a hidden gem and an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. We had a 2 night stay for the purpose of Climbing Ben Nevis which did not disappoint and IIona's hearty cooked breakfast and friendly conversation was a great start to the day. Thanks for a great stay. We will definitely be back when we return for more mountain adventures.

Location was beautiful and it was lovely to be away from the hustle and bustle. The drive into the b&b was certainly interesting and one we wanted to do as little as possible. But it was wonderful to be near their animals and in the peace and quiet. Ilona was brilliant, very approachable and helped us out with activity ideas and even some last minute washing. Would highly recommend to others!

Our only complaint is that we only stayed 1 night, Illona and her son were the perfect hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. If you are looking for somewhere quiet and secluded then this is the perfect place for you. Hopefully, we will visit again and we will make sure our stay is longer next time!

We were not visiting the area but the best tip I can give is to follow the directions to Torcastle carefully as it is out of the way.

Tore castle is a really stunning place. All you can wait from a B&B: nice and clean room, a nice leaving room, an excellent full breakfast (or not, you can chose what you want) and with large choice of hour to take it (from 7:00, witch is not’possible everywhere). You’ll enjoy the outside, the garden with the goat and dogs. Owners are such lovely people who will do everything to help you and will give you some advices of the things to do around. Fort William is not so far, 10 minutes by car, and by bike you can take the Caledonian canal that passes just near the house, it’s a nice ride.

Stunning location, overlooking Ben Nevis. Had wonderful breakfast which included home made marmalade and the eggs were from the hens that roamed in the field in front of the home. Amazing place to stay for all the local adventure activities ie, skiing, mountain biking, climbing, walking, canoeing etc all within a short drive. If that’s not your thing and it’s peace and tranquillity you want then this is the place to stay. Fort William is within a short drive which has plenty of shops, restaurants, pubs. Torcastle House is in a very beautiful location with a view on Ben Nevis (if not covered by clouds) which is worth the adventure of getting there. The room we had was very nice and our very welcoming host always helped us out when we had any questions.

Tips:

The walk to Steall Falls is very nice and not too long, if you start at the second car park at the end of the road. We also managed to get tickets for the Jacobite Steam Train, which was a nice alternative, because it had been raining all day. We didn't go to Fort William for dinner but tried the Moorings Hotel in Banavie and The Lochy in Caol - both was delicious.

This accommodation is easily 5 star. From the beautiful setting to the friendly and welcoming hosts to the comfortable room and enormous en suite. The breakfast is made to order, my personal favourite was the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, made from their own chickens. I would also recommend the full Scottish breakfast and the cereal and fresh fruit. I can not recommend Torcastle House more highly

Tips:

I was not overly impressed with the Moorings Bistro for dinner so guest may wish to venture in to a Fort William. Neptune’s steps are a must see along with a walk along the Caledonian Canal. It is only 20 minutes drive to the Glenfinnan Viaduct and also the Nevis Range Gondola.

Nice location, excellent accommodation, good food and nice people, what more could anyone ask? This was the perfect antidote to the awful place we stayed at in Fort Augustus at the other end of the canal. I'd be happy to stay here again.

Tips:

Make sure you follow the directions, and yes, you really do have to go through that tunnel. Think of it as an adventure the first time. It's bigger than you think, and don't worry about the painted trees and bushes on the approach. The Moorings does nice food at a fair price (compared with where we live), and don't expect too much from the Glencoe Scottish National Trust visitor centre.

Ben Nevis, Glenfinnan Viaduct, and the lakes are all nearby, and the Crannog seafood restaurant in Fort William was absolutely delicious.

Just had a couple of lovely nights at Torcastle House.Warm welcome & just the right amount of attention.Slept well in comfy beds & had a lovely breakfast in the morning.Great to have the use of a fridge for picnic stuff & made to feel at home.

Tips:

Would recommend if you have bikes on your roof you take them off before going through tunnel to b&b it's not worth giving it a try however low your car is. It's great to be able to get onto the Caledonian canal either by foot or bike.

Warm and welcoming and also we so appreciated your kindness around our utter exhaustion when we arrived! Loved the location and the friendly critters that greeted us in the morning. Superb breakfast! Our only challenge was it was difficult to find the B&B despite the written directions. A map would have been great to download for folks who work better wth a visual guide... even a hand done PDF would be helpful. Both our Sat Nav system and our smartphone map apps did not seem to be able to locate the place either. (Sat Nav would not accept all the Long/Latitude data).

Of all the B&B's we have used, there is only one other that can compare - that too is in Scotland. The welcome was great. The room and bed beyond expectations and the breakfast wonderful. There are some superb walks available directly from the front door. The tunnel, part of the aqueduct beneath the Caledonia canal, is a most unusual approach to the house and not to be missed. Oh and the family are lovely too.

What a fabulous stay at Torcastle! Ilona is a marvellous hostess - very warm and welcoming. She let me feed a baby goat she's looking after! The B&B is in a beautiful spot, looking on to Ben Nevis - I'd love to stay in a place like that. Breakfast was brilliant and set us up for the day. Cannot fault a thing about Torcastle House - will definitely return. Thank you so much!

Tips:

The drive through the tuunnel to get to Torcastle is an adventure - don't let this put you off at all - you're driving under the Caledonian Canal and the tunnel is easy if you take your time. Have a go at Ben Nevis (weather permitting) - we got half way in just over 2 hours before being stopped by snow. Get out and walk in the local area - beautiful scenery. Visit the West Highland Museum in Ft William - brilliant! We ate in both the Crofter's and the Lochy (both have pool tables) - good, well-priced food and pleasant service.

Amazing place to stay, wonderful and friendly hosts and rooms are immaculate. Now dont let the location put you off, the drive through an enchanted tunnel is incredible, albeit a little scary at night haha. We managed a chance encounter with billy the goat and the two dogs who are incredible and just want cuddled, breakfast was a delight and we loved every minute of our stay.

Tips:

Fort William is around a 10 minute drive away so there are plenty of restaurants to choose from, would highly recommend taking the 15 minute drive to Ben Nevis and taking the cable car up to the viewpoints, absolutely incredible sights to see.

Torcastle bed and breakfast is a very nice place to stay, the staff are very friendly and helpful and made me and my girlfriend feel very welcome and it felt like a home from home as the atmosphere was so calm and peaceful. The scenery is amazing looking out the window eating breakfast looking at the mountains with the snow and clouds rolling over the peaks. Definitely worth a visit even if it is for one night. We stayed for 4 nights and loved it. The animals are brilliant also got to see the sheep feeding in the morning and play with the baby goat and also play with the dogs. Me and my girlfriend will definitely be staying again during the summer as it is a good Base from nevis not to far away to go walking or climbing. Not far at all from Fort William so definitely a plus as you get the peaceful location and then you can go out and have fun, come back and then relax. I would like to thank the staff at torcastle bed and breakfast for the hospitality and letting me feed the baby goat (billy) :) Thankyou from Jordan and Alexandra..

Tips:

Not far from Ben Nevis north face car park. Lots to do in Fort William go explore! Also if you see the dogs make sure you play ball there friendly and like a good scratch on the head :)

Located in a beautiful area (albeit hard to find). Magnificent views of Ben Nevis and very down to earth owners. Only stayed one night but was the best night sleep in years and would love to have stayed longer. High quality bedding and toiletries made it a surprisingly luxurious stay. Situated on a small farm it was lovely to wake up to all the view of the animals and the mountain.

Tips:

Give yourself plenty of time to find the place - preferably in daylight. Restaurant close by is surprisingly good!

Torcastle House was a lovely, neat-as-a-pin B&B tucked away near Banavie, Fort William and a good base for walking/hiking Ben Nevis. The proprietor, Ilona, was do helpful and efficient. She met us at Banavie station, which was greatly appreciated. Full Breakfasts were exactly what we needed before hiking Ben Nevis.

Tips:

A car is recommended, but it's possible to make do without. Walking the Great Glen Way or hiking at least part of the way up "the Ben" are must-dos, as the scenery is spectacular.

At first I thought I was lost. I had come down a gravel lane and before me was a tunnel under a canal. I couldn't turn my motorcycle round, so decided to press on. On reaching the other end of the tunnel, I rode on a few more hundred yards to come to my destination. What a surprise ! A lovely modern built building and a warm welcome by my host for the night. The setting is beautiful and so quiet. My room for the night was large and comfortable with a nice en-suite to shower away the days travels. Although in the country, it's not too far from eating establishments of which there are many and a bonus of discount arranged by my host in some of them. Going in and out via the tunnel made this stay like an adventure and after a hearty breakfast, I was wishing I had more time to take in this oasis in the woods.

Tips:

I ate in The Moorings restaurant which is the first one you reach at the end of the winding road from Torcastle House. Discount is available and the food is very decent with nice attentive staff.

Lovely accomodation, very clean and modern. The room and bathroom were beautiful with all you need for a great stay. The common area was well equipped and had a great view out to Ben Nevis with farm chickens running around, truly a Scottish view, a not to be missed location. Loved looking out the glass patio door at the view! Breakfast was super, you will not find any better, fresh farm eggs, full Scottish breakfast We received a very warm welcome and were treated better than anywhere else on our journey, these people know how to make travellers feel at home and nothing was a problem for them to help in anyway, truly worth the drive.

We loved the location and the views to Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor and the unusual access to the property. We liked the room and facilities as well as the friendly and helpful nature of the owner.

Tips:

Fort William can be the centre for a whole range of activities. While our stay was only two nights, we went to see the " Harry Potter Train" cross the viaduct at Glenfinnan as well as doing the walk under the viaduct and up over the hill to the Glenfinnan Station and museum. We also caught the gondola up Aonach Mor and did the two walks out to viewing areas to get great views of Fort William and the lochs as well as Ben Nevis.

With flights booked I had left it a little late on the accommodation and hadn't paid too much attention to where I was booking. When we pulled of the main road and followed directions down to a tunnel taking you underneath the canal we started to realise this wasn't your standard B&B along a main road. The setting it beautiful, great views over the mountains, friendly dogs, chickens, lambs, pigs all surround you. You feel like you are on a self sufficient island with the river on one side and the canal the other. The breakfasts are brilliant - would recommend the scrambled eggs and smoked salmon - you only get scrambled eggs that colour from eggs that are laid within meters of where you eat! I would have no hesitation in going back again, and probably again.

Tips:

Crannog Seafood Restaurant on the Loch was our favourite place we ate - booking recommended

It was just a short 1 night stay to break a long journey from Bristol to the far north west of Scotland. It was an absolutely delightful B&B with an extremely friendly, helpful and caring owner. The location is absolutely perfect for quiet peaceful relaxation and walking the Caledonian canal, Great Glen etc.,. You have to be prepared to drive if you want pubs and restaurants but it's worth it with such fantastic views of the Nevis range.

Wonderful stay at a wonderful B & B with $1,000,000 view! The single track road for access was a breeze For us after almost 2 weeks in Rural England and Scotland, but the tunnel under the Caldonian Canal was a completely new experience...just grit your teeth and do it...do it very slowly! Highly recommend.

Tips:

Go to the Ben Nevis Bar and Restaurant a couple of miles up the north side of the glen for good food and beautiful setting and fantastic views. Highly recommend the Jacobite train trip to Maillag and back...if the weather is warm and you ride with the coach windows open be prepared comb the small cinders from your hair and wipe a bit of soot off your face...now that was the way to travel!

Unique location accessed via a brick tunnel under the Caledonian Canal, I would suggest trying to arrive in daylight if possible. Views from B & B house which is separate from owners accommodation look towards the mountains and offer wonderful views. Owners are very friendly and hospitable, even the pet sheep are friendly. Breakfast was good and freshly cooked. Plenty of hot water for bath but electric shower was a run around and get wet affair. ( We have power shower at home so this may be normal) Would stop there again when we are in area.

Tips:

We had a meal in the Nevis Inn (Browns) in Fort William. The found we had was excellent; but we only had a main meal of braised shin of beef on red cabbage and no starter or sweet. Just be aware of the prices before you venture in as for a group of you it could prove expensive.

The hosts are incredibly welcoming and friendly- always willing to help. Excellent if you intend to climb Ben Nevis or for summer/winter mountaineering.

Great place to stay. The house is beautiful, rooms are spacious and everything, from sheets, towels and furniture are highest quality standard, better than most hotels. The place is peaceful and faces the impressive Ben Nevis Mountain that inspires you lots of excursions and adventures in the surroundings. And over all, a great family that runs this business of B&B in a very professional way and always warmly and with a great smile. Thanks for a great holiday experience.

Tips:

From here you can visit most of the great places in the highlands.

Perfect B&B, with a very friendly family. Nice breakfast, served in a room with a beautiful view of Ben Nevis.

Tips:

Stop at the tunnel to the B&B and climb up to discover it is actually an aquaduct underneath the Caladonian Canal. Have a look at the locks, which are behind the restaurant at the end of the street.

16th July 2014:

Decor, hospitality, breakfast food, layout of the room and bright and spacious breakfast area/guest living room all truly outstanding. The only possible drawback the country lanes leading in from the main road making it difficult to find the place at first, but clear instructions from the hostess sent in advance by email largely overcame that.

Tips:

A few minutes drive to the village of Banavie gets one to any easy access point for a walk along the Caledonian Canal beside the series of seven locks known as Neptune's Staircase. Access to Torcastle House involves a (short) drive through a tunnel under a viaduct carrying a section of the canal - fascinating.

Lovely accommodation and very friendly family. We loved our stay and the cooked breakfast was the best I have ever had. We loved the farm feel with chickens, sheep and Tara the pig all wandering around outside, not to mention their gorgeous well behaved dogs. A true country feel, we loved the remote location, especially the tunnel to get there! Our king size bed was very comfortable and the room was very large. A perfect place to stay after climbing Nevis, couldn't have asked for more and I would recommend to anyone. We were made to feel very welcome and at home. There was a relaxed atmosphere throughout our stay, including a late breakfast and a relaxed, unrushed departure. Bliss and perfection.

Tips:

Great for relaxing and walking in the countryside. There is a beautiful clear river minutes from the property. Fort William is only 5 miles away. Perhaps difficult if you don't have a car but there are always taxi's.

Very comfortable room and bed. Wish the weather had been better but otherwise all good. Just 2 suggestions but not complaints at all. Become more familiar with local restaurants so you can advise guests what to expect. See if your booking service will text message you for bookings within 24 or 48 hrs if you're not online through out the day.
