Travelled around Scotland. This was by far the best breakfast. Great hosts. Premises close to everything you need.

Tips:

Ben Nevis pub. Good food/portions. Due to covid/lack of staff it was pretty difficult to find places to eat. You must book on advance. Don't bother emailing the restaurants, they never responded. Call them.

Great place to stay, very clean and comfortable. Lovely views and only 5 minutes walk from town centre, and just up the hill from train station. Staff were great, off road parking always a plus. Loved this place, look forward to returning. Love Scotland.

Tips:

Fort William is an excellent base or stop off for exploring, plenty to do in and around it.

19th September 2021:

We would highly recommend Guisachan Guesthouse and thank Carmen, Phill and their staff for a very relaxed and comfortable stay during our 2-day visit to Fort William. Location is ideal, being peaceful, as it is just off the main road but less than 5 mins walk from the high street, bus and railway stations. Many facilities you might only expect to find in a small hotel, including a spacious lounge with an excellent selection of boardgames and books, well stocked bar and all-important drying room for more active west highland visitors. Comprehensive continental and traditional Scottish breakfast included and the additional bar food menu is well worth sampling. Reassuring covid-related measures gave us added confidence during our recent stay.

Tips:

Highland soap visitor centre and cafe at nearby Inverlochy is well worth a visit, as is Neptune's Staircase an impressive flight of 8 locks on the Caledonian Canal at nearby Banavie. The steam-hauled Jacobite train trip from Fort William to Mallaig is an enjoyable day trip but usually needs to be booked well in advance. The Bridge Cafe in Spean Bridge has good food and friendly service if you are heading north by road.

friendly welcome. cosy room and good shower, comfy bed which is all you need at the end of the WHW! We had an early departure as had to catch the 7:45 train so sadly didnt experience the breakfast. when we checked out the young girl gave us three breakfast bags, all vegan it was the best we had on the trip. I bet the vegan breakfast would have been fabulous. would definitely stay again.

Tips:

if vegan definitely visit the wild cat cafe for fab choices.

Fab place to stay. Clean, warm, friendly and great meals (we had breakfast and an evening meal). Bed was lovely and comfortable and having a bath to be able to soak aching muscles in after climbing Ben Nevis was greatly appreciated. I had been worried when as soon as we arrived, my son was sick on their door step but it was handled wonderfully: no awkwardness, snide comments or hassle - just keen to ensure he was ok and it was cleaned up properly. 10/10

Tips:

Don’t worry when you’ll be back after climbing Ben Nevis and where to book to eat - just eat there: no hassle and great food.

We had a lovely 2 day stay here. The house is beautifully situated on a hill overlooking the loch and surrounding views. We were very well looked after and felt very welcome. The breakfast was lovely, as was the lovely Mozzo coffee all the way from good old Southampton. The owners are very welcoming and can’t do enough to ensure that your stay is perfect! Thank you

Tips:

You will need to book any restaurants in advance but we got Fish & chips and ate them on the outside veranda, which was lovely, as the weather was on our side! Definitely climb Nevis, but expect your legs to hurt the next day if you’ve not hill trained! 🤪 The town is small but the Nevis pub was lovely to have a good G & T and local Guiness outside overlooking the loch.

We were told that for evening meals, it is better to go to a restaurant earlier than later, due to availability and queues. If you have a short stay at Fort William then try the Jacobite Steam train, it will take you to Mallaig and give a good overview if the surrounding views.

Everything has been thought of and the ambience is lovely. The 'packed breakfast' for those departing early was substantial and good. Thank you for your hospitality.

Tips:

Avoid the tourist route on Ben Nevis. It is a moonscape with hundreds of people. Glen Nevis has wonderful hills and circle routes and every one of those is nicer.

Thank you Carmen and Phill for our excellent stay at Guisachan House! We had a brilliant summer holiday and made many many memories to cherish. We loved all the lovely little homely touches and kindnesses, getting us bigger orange juice glasses as you noticed we were back and forth for refills at breakfast was just one of the kindnesses. The drying room was brilliant for drying wet clothes and shoes after a particularly soggy outing, we will be recommending you to everyone who wants to visit the highlands and we will most definitely be back to visit again. Thank you for making out trip so lovely.

I stayed only one night but plan to return for a longer stay. It was a short walk from the station and the town centre. The guesthouse was spotlessly clean, pleasantly decorated and very comfortable. On a blazing hot day, I was grateful for the ice-cold water and fan provided. Travelling on my own, I appreciated having a comfy lounge in which to spend some time looking out over the beautiful loch (with one of the extensive choice of whiskies!)and I enjoyed the attentive and friendly service. The food was excellent, too.

Tips:

If you like the toiletries at the guesthouse, the Highland Soap Company has a visitor centre just up the road and a shop in Fort William.

Beautiful elevated location overlooking Loch Linhe. The outside terrace has amazing views and is very peaceful. The fairy lights at night added to the ambiance and there were blankets available for chillier evenings. The inside lounge was spacious and the bar well stocked and shared the same stunning views. The room was spotless, decorated very tastefully and was very comfortable. I was lucky enough to have the beautiful Loch views. Breakfast was a delight and had varied options which were all delicious and great quality . Staff were lovely, friendly and very helpful. Highly recommend staying here and can’t wait to return.

Tips:

Very close to the train station for the Jacobite.. walking distance to the town centre. Supermarkets and fast food restaurants nearby on a retail park include KFC and Costa. Near the Nevis Range. Book restaurants early if possible in the summer season. The hotel have a selection of light snacks which i didn’t try but looked good. I stopped off here before the beautiful drive to Skye via Eilan Donan Castle and it was only 2 1/2 hours so arrived in Skye at a good time to spend the day there. Could easily be visited and return to the hotel for a great day out.

Tips:

Crannog Seafood at the town centre pier is a must go for dining. The fish there was done brilliantly and is ultra fresh. As for activities, I would highly recommend going up the gondola at the Nevis Range Mountain resort and exploring the walks and views up there. Plus if you like mountain biking, there's a wide range of courses available. If you like walking, the Glencoe Visitor centre south of Fort William is a must, as it has information on a wide range of walks in the local area and is within striking distance of Grey Mare Falls.

Very knowledgeable on access and getting us a packed breakfast for that day was no trouble at all. The following days breakfast was fit for a king. All in all a fabulous experience. We hope to be back to do more hill walking in the future.

Tips:

Noticed the guesthouse does some evening food Am sure this would be perfect for after a climb when exhaustion creeps in and you don't fancy the walk to town. I'd have loved to visit the museum but a walk along the shore or a boat trip on the Loch are great ways to unwind on a short trip such as ours.

Attractive guesthouse with an amazing view from the dining room, Phil and carmen are charming as is all the staff. Good covid procedure in place, breakfast is ordered the night before and bought to your table. Everywhere is spotless. Nice touches everywhere from a drying room for hikers, a boot holder, lovely cosy throws if it's a bit chilly on the patio, highland soaps in the bathroom, the bar is very reasonably priced. The room was spotless.

Tips:

The guesthouse is perfect for hikers, Neptune staircase is just 10 minutes away, glenfinnan, ben nevis distillery , the highland soap company and the whiskey gift centre is 2 minutes. We went up the town which has the same as every town unfortunately the amount of dog poo everywhere.

The owners - Carmen and Phil - are very friendly and helpful. We stayed 2 days after walking the West Highland Way. We particularly appreciated that they told us about a website with a detailed weather forecast for Ben Nevis and helped us decide whether it was safe to climb. (It wasn't). Great suggestions of alternative activities. We really enjoyed the lounge and games. Also appreciated the packed breakfast for our train home. Would definitely stay again - hopefully next year to do the Great Glen Way.

We really enjoyed our 2-night stay and just wish it could have been longer! The view from our room was fantastic. Phill & Carmen are so friendly and helpful. We were looking for a specific location and their local knowledge was of great help. We would love to come back! Thank you and God bless you and give you a good summer!!

Tips:

Things are starting to open up after Covid restrictions, but you need to phone or search on the website first to see if places are open. It is also difficult to find restaurant bookings unless done in advance, but there is an excellent fish & chips on the high street.

A little (tenuously necessary) backstory... The night before arriving in Fort William, we stayed at a hostel in Kinlochleven. The staff clocked off at 11PM... queue an almighty party two doors down from us. Bad techno music and screamed conversations lasted long into the night. The main phone number and direct mobile all rang out. The hostel's email address wasn't manned during the night. We awoke feeling exhausted and walked through horizontal rain to Fort William. After summiting the small hill in front of Guisachan Guesthouse, we entered what I will always remember as a perfect oasis of calm after a seriously hellish 234 hours. We were greeted by two people (I'm bad with names -- sorry. Tall gentleman and shorter woman), who were friendly and helpful. They checked us in and showed us to our room. It was clean, well-equiped, and boasted amazing views out over the water. Two of our party were on the early train and we expected that we'd have to miss breakfast... but nope! The Guesthouse did a packed lunch, which was a very nice gesture. In short, the Guesthouse was exactly what we needed. Many thanks!

Carmen and Phil were extremely friendly and accommodating, some of the best hosts we’ve come across and operating in some very strange Covid times. The B&B had amazing views, was very well organised. The owners were very helpful with suggestions of what to do and where to go. We all had a lovely time, thank you

Tips:

Be prepared for a little hill walking up to the B&B but the views are worth it! Take advantage of the covered patio for a drink and views at the end of the day. The local cinema and cafe is amazing, food is great -try the tapas! The Harry Potter train is great, views spectacular. Be prepared for Mallaig to be very busy when you hop off the train, better to roam further than stay close to the train for food etc.

Absolutely fantastic stay at the Guisachan, me and my wife stayed for 2 nights 1 with evening meal which was very nice. We had a great time the owners are very helpful and knowledgeable of the local area, the guest house is very central to Fort William 5 minute walk to the centre and train station to catch the Jacobite steam train to Malaig. I would highly recommend this guest house.

Tips:

Jacobite steam train if you don't have booked tickets get there early and you should be able to get tickets for that day or pre book for the next day. Ben Nevis gondola does not run on Tues or Wed?

Tips:

If going up Ben Nevis. Use walking boots with ankle support, use walking poles especially for the climb down. Midges weren't too bad on Ben Nevis but when we did the Steall falls they were really bad. I would recommend long sleeves long trousers and a head net. Boat trip was good. We loved our stay! We were travelling with our 6 month old daughter and the Guisachan House were so accommodating for her! Travel cot and sheets provided in our room and there was a high chair and kids cutlery set up at breakfast on the dining room. Amazing touches that did not go unnoticed! The breakfast was superb! We only needed a light dinner later on in the day as it set us up for the day! It’s location is only a 5 minute walk from the centre of Fort William and the views! Will definitely be visiting again in the future.

Tips:

If heading out for food and in the current COVID climate I would recommend booking somewhere as we spent a good half an hour or so walking up and down the high street trying to find somewhere with space for us with the pram. We ended up at the Black Isle craft beer hall for pizza which was lovely.

What can I say, this was the second visit to this lovely guest house within 10 days, such was the delight of my first visit! Both Carmen & Phill were more than apologetic that I had to have the small single room, but it has to be said that even this room was more than adequate, complete with its own ajoining bathroom, all you single travellers needn't worry! Finally, I really cannot recommend the Guisachan Guest House enough, what are you waiting for? Get booking, before all the rooms go, you'll struggle to find a better Guest House for miles!

Owners very helpful & look after guests extremely well. Other staff also pleasant with COVID-19 regulations adhered to. Breakfast choices very good & also a choice of evening & bar meals. May not be classed as an hotel, but I have stayed at many no where near as good as Guisachan House. Wish Phill & Carmen every success.

Friendly and welcoming, car park available. There is a small bar and evening meals are available if required. Extra care was seen to be taken during COVID with no self service at breakfast, and food prepared to order. Rooms and tables sanitised regularly.

Tips:

Not an over abundance of good eating places, we did however enjoy a good meal at the Geographer

My husband and I spent 3 nights We could not find any faults everything was perfect. It would take too long to write about the service, staff, cleanliness etc. The owners were lovely and could not do enough for you. They work hard and deserve all the praise they get.

Tips:

Just enjoy and visit as much as you can. A lovely part of Scotland.

Verry friendly hosts. They offer to park my motor in the garage. The room had now view but who cares when there is a causy leaving room and a dining room bouth with a great view on the loch? There is a small bar inside and a lot of games. Even videogames. They also take care for the environment in the choise of products.

What a lovely couple Carmen & Phill are! They can't do enough for you and their B&B is perfectly run! As a travel journslaist myself, I visit a lot of thee types of properties and many could learn from th way that Phill & Couple run their establishment. I had the smallest on they offer, yet it was still big enough. They also do evening meals by request and this simple yet truly wholesome Menu really is what you need when you've been either driving a long way, or after a day in the highlands!

Location, Food and People all were so good and worth your money. They welcomed us to use the lounge facilities as we reached early in Fort Williams, room was sanitized and arranged neatly when we came back from sightseeing for check-in. Next day morning breakfast was tasty and enough for us. Thanks Phil !!

Friendly and hospitable couple who run the guest house. The hosts were extremely helpful when I had to move my dates. Also very accommodating with my fussy eating husband and daughter, many thanks for a great stay!

Tips:

Book ahead to eat in the Ben Nevis Inn up at the foot of the mountain, the food was outstanding - don't be confused with the Ben Nevis bar and Grill in town which is not the same place. The Jacobite steam train is a must! Take the ferry to Mull to visit Tobermory via Corren and Fishnish rather than the busy one from Oban - beautiful driving route!

Really great guest house to stay in. We had a lovely room with a great view across Fort William and the top of Loch Linnhe. It’s very handy for the town centre and has a lovely garden and elevated position. Phill and Carmen and Morven were very welcoming and helpful. There was a good place to store our bikes securely. We would recommend this B and B and would happily use it again.

Tips:

The Black Isle Brewery Restaurant in town serves great pizzas and beer.

I can't praise this place enough! We decided to go to Fort William for my birthday and we booked the family room and dinner; breakfast was included in the price. I have to say that the food was amazing and they catered for all of our needs (one gluten free and one pescetarian in the group) without any problems. I am used to restaurants not having much on offer (expecially for somebody with food intolerances) but the owners, Carmen and Phil, provided us with an excellent menu and fantastic quality food, thank you :) The room was modern, really clean and had every facility you could need. Also, the beds were reeeeeally comfy. They also have heated drying facilities for your boots and other equiptment, which is a bonus. I can only say thank you for your warm hospitality, for a wonderful stay and we will be back again :)

I had a very cosy and relaxing stay. The service was excellent, the owners and staff were always available and happy to help. The food was really tasty and homemade, and was also given the option of the bar menu. The owners paid great attention to detail learning what I liked, for example they offered me a latte with breakfast instead of the usual breakfast coffee as they knew I had enjoyed the latte's I had ordered the evening before; this was very thoughtful of them and added to my positive experience. They went above and beyond.

Carmen and Phil were a lovely couple, who gave me a very warm welcome. I would highly recommend their Guest House to anyone visiting, or travelling around, Fort William and the Western Highlands.

Tips:

I would recommend a walk along the shores of Loch Linnhe to anyone visiting Fort William. Starting from the shore gardens as you enter Fort William from the South, and ending at Neptune's Staircase in Bonavie in the North. Spectacular views of the mountains and Glens, while listening to the gentle noise of the water breaking onto the rocks. You will also see some historical landmarks including, castles, Ben Nevis and finally the great engineering work undertaken at the canal - which connects to Loch Ness.

I absolutely loved staying at the guesthouse. From the moment I checked in until leaving everyone was so friendly and lovely. After a week of camping the west highland way, a comfy bed with crisp clean sheets and a nice hot shower were exactly what I needed! My room was even upgraded so I had a view. I was also really impressed by how seriously you were all taking coronavirus precautions. I’m sure switching from a breakfast buffet to table service must be more work for everyone but I have to admit I felt very fancy having a multi-course breakfast brought right to me. Thanks for being so lovely! You’re now the place I want to stay everytime I come to Fort William!

Tips:

The guesthouse is right by the train station and about halfway between the old and new ends of the west highland way for anyone finishing the same journey I did. They even have a drying room somewhere if you need one!
