We had a wonderful stay at the Rumblies B&B. Fiona & Simon were very welcoming, and despite the Covid-restrictions, we felt very well looked-after. The room, the lounge & dining areas & the food were of an excellent standard. We appreciated Simon’s recommendations on potential places to visit & his excellent whisky knowledge. Would definitely book to stay there again & recommend to others. The red squirrel sightings were the icing on the cake.

Tips:

As our stay was for one night only we didn’t have a chance to explore the local area, but next time ....

6th September 2020:

Very simply - EXCELLENT. I was a solo walker from Farthest East to Farthest West (in Scotland). They took me in and made sure that for the two nights that I was there, that I was well rested, watered and fed. Fiona and Simon are very helpful, knowledgeable (about everything from ways to whiskies) and experts on local history. In addition, they host an excellent dinner table. They are a kind couple, who go even more than the extra mile to ensure a comfortable stay. Very highly recommended.

Tips:

There are few other paces to stay in this area, but even if there were more [laces to choose from, the Rumblie House is an oasis of rest and relaxation.

31st August 2020:

We had a fantastic time staying with Fiona and Simon at the Rumblie. They were both very welcoming, the rooms were great quality, clean and with everything you could need. Breakfast and evening meals were delicious as were the drinks in the bar - along with Simon's excellent knowledge of whiskey and local beers. Couldn't fault it and would definitely travel the 500 or so miles from home to stay again!

Tips:

If you like whiskey or want to try it, a tasting at the bar with Simon would be well worth arranging. We learned more from him than the actual distillery tours we did. distilleries are an interesting visit - Glenfiddich was a highlight and great lunch too but some are a distance so plan your transport out. Phillipe's taxis in avimore was a great guide!

13th August 2020:

Possibly one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in. A very warm welcome on arrival from Fiona and secure lock-up for our bikes. The room was very clean, comfortable, plenty of tea and homemade shortbread. Great bathroom, shower and bedding. Evening meal was delicious and catered for my wife's gluten free requirements. Fiona and Simon also use produce sourced locally and from their own vegetable garden. Simon is a whisky expert and we enjoyed tasting his own blend and another one he selected us to try. He has vast knowledge on the subject so we learnt much about the industry. Breakfast was also very good, with an array of options, all of which were top notch. Fiona and Simon are consummate hosts - you can tell they have been doing this for several years and really understand how to make the stay for their guests as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. They have extensive local knowledge too, both about the history and activities, plus a genuine warmth and friendliness. If you are visiting this stunning, quite isolated part of Scotland, then I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

A fabulous place with friendly and very knowledgeable people. After the (excellent) meal, we enjoyed the evening learning and talking about the area, its wildlife, its history - and whisky.

22nd July 2020:

We enjoyed our most recent stay. It was our first stay anywhere post lockdown. We were highly impressed by the adaptions made to ensure safety for guests and staff. The new way in which breakfast is served is very good. Giving guests flexibility and choice and making sure it is safe. Fiona and Simon give huge attention to detail and are very friendly making guests feel superbly welcome. Dinner too was excellent. We will certainly be back again.

Tips:

We enjoy visiting the cafe at Laggan village stores, within walking distance of Rumblie. They now have an alcohol licence so a beer after a day out walking was most welcome. The mountains give all the pleasure we seek but also enjoyed the wildlife near Tulloch Station. It is a beautiful spot.

6th October 2019:

This was my 6th visit to Scotland and my first visit to the Rumblie. The Rumblie is a wonderful place to stay because of the quality of the accomodation and the warm welcome by the hosts, Fiona & Simon. The room we had was large, with great beds and excellent en-suite facilities. Fiona & Simon can tell you everything there is to know about walks in the surrounding area. Watching all the birds, that are being fed by Fiona & Simon, during breakfast is a mesmerizing experience. Speaking of breakfast, the pancakes being served immediately converted my son into a Rumblie devotee!

Tips:

We've tried both the Glen Hotel and the Letterbox for dinner. The Glen Hotel is to me definitely the better of the two choices, as the food at the Letterbox was rather mediocre and the atmosphere in the Glen Hotel is much more lively.

Merci. Jacques

Arguably the best place on our East Highland Way. Fiona and Alan are really welcoming and go out of their way to help their guests. As to the Rumblie House, we loved the place and food. One realizes quickly that the hosts really care about how they run their place. They care about little details of the meal (veggies, meat etc. were delicious and to the point), the rooms and common areas are spotless and try to include home-grown food supplies wherever possible. This guesthouse is a treat.

Doctors office (called surgery) is around the corner. We were offered a pick-up from our hiking track as the guesthouse is a bit off-route.

Loved the peace and quiet - would have loved to see the red squirrels but recognise not always possible. But have never seen so many pheasants queuing up for breakfast.

Tips:

Only stayed for one night so no opportunity to explore local surrounds

This was the best breakfast, with the freshest and most delectable food, during my entire month in Scotland. Also, the bathroom provided washcloths and other amenities not found in other B&Bs. I would have stayed another three nights if she had had an opening.

Tips:

From here, I took day trips to Glencoe and Inverness. It would be easy from here, too, to get to Stirling. But mostly, this is an oasis in the midst of a gorgeous national park. A real jewel.

It was a very nice stay at the Rumblie Guest House. Everything was super clean, the beds were very comfortable and it was amazingly quiet. Next to the superb breakfast we enjoyed the many birds and pheasants running through the garden. Also the contact with Simon and Fiona was as good as it can be. Very nice and very obliging people.

Tips:

If you want to enjoy dinner at the letterbox, book in advance! Also if you enjoy hiking, do the walk to the old hilltop fort, it gives you an amazing view of the beautiful landscape including Loch Laggan.

A really lovely stay, thank you. Extremely comfortable accommodation, and friendly hosts. Beds comfy, bathrooms sumptuous. The food in the evening and at breakfast was first rate. The fact that is was Scottish and sustainable was particulary nice. As lovely as the food was, if of a very large appetite consider asking for more bread on the table at dinner (for us, more bread was provided on request). Simon's extensive knowledge of the vast range of whisky was also impressive! Thank you both

Check out Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy and Gallery for a relaxing coffee and piece of cake. Moutain biking off the nearby Corrieyairack Pass is a tough, but rewarding challenge!

14th May 2018:

The Rumblies is well located on, and popular with, walkers travelling the East Highland Way. That was the reason for our 2 night stay. We found Simon and Fiona to be very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful hosts and in fact their drop-off and pickup service was vital to our route plans. The accommodation was clean warm and comfortable and ideal for our purposes. Breakfasts were delicious. For "Monarch of the Glen" followers there are a number of relics and props from the TV series around the premises.

Tips:

Accommodation options around Laggan area are very limited, especially B&B, so talk to Simon and Fiona as early as possible about your plans and they'll prove to be very supportive. They are walker and cyclist friendly. Within about a 15 mile radius there are many attractions to reach with The Rumblie as a touring base (Dun da Lamh pictish fort, Dalwhinnie Distillery, Creag Meageadh Nature Reserve, Wolftrax cycle centre, Highland Folk Museum, Highland Wildlife Park etc etc). Be aware there is no public transport service between Laggan and Roy Bridge so a car becomes essential to cross the country towards Fort William. Laggan Hotel is within about a mile for an evening meal alternative although evening meals can be pre-arranged with Fiona and there are a number of other options to suit all budgets in nearby Newtonmore from Hotels to a truckers café.

6th June 2016:

We booked a twin room as part of a 1 night stay whilst walking the East Highland Way. Accommodation was of a very high standard and we were well looked after by Simon & Fiona. Simon offers a pick up & drop off service for those people doing the EHW. To avoid doing a 26m day from Tulloch Simon picked us up from Gallovie Bridge which was very welcome. Accommodation and eating options in Laggan are very limited so we booked the 3 course eveneing meal which was very nice. Simon also keeps a very well maintained bar of whiskies and local beers. Breakfast was lovely and you can watch the wide variety of birds on the feeders outside the dining room. They also provide packed lunchies. All in all, not the cheapest B&B but what you do get is quality accommodation, quality food and great hosts with plenty of local knowledge & the pick up service which was invaluable.

Tips:

Accommodation in Laggan is extremely limited so suggest that you book in at the Rumblie. There is also nowehere to eat as no local pub or restuarant. Laggan does have a local village store which stocks a wide variety of provisions and great ice cream. However, not sure how long the shop will be open for as current owners were due to leave.

28th September 2014:

Great B&B. Enjoyed our evening meal very much and the breakfasts were super - especially liked the use of local produce - and also watching the birds having their breakfast from the bird-feeders at the same time! Simon and Fiona provided us with a great deal of very useful information about the area and nothing seemed to be any trouble to them. I am sure we will be back.

Tips:

Try to catch a shinty match at nearby Newtonmore or Kingussie. Wildcat trail at Newtonmore very good. The Guidebook divides the walk into several sections, saving you having to do the whole trail at one time. Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore very interesting. Highland Wildlife Park outside Kingussie is a great experience - especially seeing the polar bears so close up at feeding time.

29th June 2014:

Very welcoming, very comfortable and love the ethical policy Excellent breakfast - lots of choice - but would have appreciated some choice for the evening meal. Very helpful advice from proprietor on what to do.

Tips:

Recommend walk round Loch an Eilean, Cairngorm always good for a trip (even if the funicular not working). Coffee at "The Potting Shed" excellent.

Owner Response:

Thank you for the review. Our location is not perfect for everyone and we know that being some distance from Aviemore is not to everyones liking...we're perfect for Muno bagging, local sightseeing, the east highland way and lots of other things. We try and discuss Dinner with our guests to ensure that the meal will be to the liking of all, apologies if the options we had available to offer you and your party (which included 3 vegetarians) was not sufficent.

19th May 2014:

The personal touch (local knowledge, detailed map printed for our next walk) added to your accomodation and food was worth the price (with wildcamping to follow the average costs could be kept within our budget !) The busdriver did stop at the most convenient P near the beginning of our walk. The roadworks only just finished at the P.otherwise we would have been walking back from House of Bruar.

Tips:

For walkers Fortunately the Lagganshop will open again!

Faultless B & B with fantastic helpful hosts. Dinner on arrival was brilliant - the freshest and locally grown ingredients were used including their own rhubarb.

Tips:

We ate at 'The Glen" in Newtonmore on the second evening which was good.

30th May 2013:

Fiona was very welcoming and the facilities were great. The food was lovely and we were very comfortable. My only minor comment is that the shower gel and shampoo were quite high up in the shower so difficult to reach for a small perosn like me.

Tips:

We ate at the B&B as we were on foot. The meal was excellent.
